mconsidi is leading the 2010 Ball funded R&D effort. This will focus on three dimensional data visualization and geographic transforms. Keep an eye on the mailing list and IRC for further information. Anyone is welcome to contribute, please contact the developer's mailing list if you are interested.

4.3.3 key dates:

  • All new code must be checked in by Friday, January 29

2010-01-11T11:01:09 <tclarke> 8. Summary and closing
2010-01-11T11:01:11 <tclarke> last meeting notes are here: http://opticks.org/confluence/display/opticksChat/December+14%2C+2009+Meeting+Notes
2010-01-11T11:01:21 <tclarke> if errors are noticed, let me know, otherwise I'll consider silence to be acceptance
2010-01-11T11:01:29 <tclarke> first item is a recap of the scripting work for 2009
2010-01-11T11:02:43 <tclarke> we added a new datacentric API which is less complex than the full plug-in API
2010-01-11T11:02:54 <tclarke> it's written in C (C99 types) and is distributed at a DSO (DLL/so)
2010-01-11T11:03:01 <dsulgrov> here
2010-01-11T11:03:04 <tclarke> we wrapped this in Python and created some Python classes around the functions to make it easier to use
2010-01-11T11:03:11 <tclarke> these are all in the trunk (opticks and extras) and will be released officially in 4.3.3
2010-01-11T11:03:35 <tclarke> IDL wrappers have not been written but it is possible to load the api dll manually and interact with it in IDL provided you can get a handle to the Opticks services object
2010-01-11T11:05:07 <tclarke> this can be obtained from the Python api right now....an IDL method to get at this data may or may not make it into 4.3.3
2010-01-11T11:05:14 <tclarke> syntactic sugar wrappers in IDL are in progress but have no definate release date
2010-01-11T11:05:19 <tclarke> any questions or comments on this project?
2010-01-11T11:05:19 <tclarke> .
2010-01-11T11:05:31 <kstreith> i started toying with the Python stuff last week and it's super cool
2010-01-11T11:05:40 <kstreith> i'll be working on some sample scripts soon that i'll push out to the wiki and blog about it
2010-01-11T11:07:00 <tclarke> I'm planning a brown bag lunch at Ball in Dayton to demo some of this but it probably won't be for a couple of weeks and I'll be on leave starting thursday
2010-01-11T11:07:14 <tclarke> kstreith may also present something at the mil-oss working group in Feb but I don't believe he's settled on a presentation topic yet
2010-01-11T11:07:32 <tclarke> ok, that brings us to this year's Ball funded R&D work...mconsidi will be leading the effort so I'll let him give an overview
2010-01-11T11:07:37 <mconsidi> The primary goal of th IR&D is to implement three dimensional geocentric visualization and analysis capability.
2010-01-11T11:07:56 <goffena> here
2010-01-11T11:09:12 <mconsidi> We plan to implement a LAS importer that will allow us to test the visualization and analysis capability with available LIDAR data.
2010-01-11T11:09:12 <mconsidi> We plan to implement a LAS importer that will allow us to test the visualization and analysis capability with available LIDAR data.
2010-01-11T11:09:33 <tclarke> Note: that's only 1 LAS importer, not two :-P
2010-01-11T11:09:36 <mconsidi> We also plan to add support for imageries to ground space mappings that will allow Opticks to support map projections, the ability to drape imagery over DEM and multi-source fusion such as imagery and LIDAR.
2010-01-11T11:10:08 <mconsidi> Possible algorithms might include line of sight and 3-D temporal mapping
2010-01-11T11:11:27 <mconsidi> Look for a wiki page in the near future to discuss ideas and direction.
2010-01-11T11:11:33 <tclarke> remember, even though this is a Ball funded effort, anyone outside of Ball wishing to help out is welcome to do so, just contact dev@opticks.ballforge.net
2010-01-11T11:11:44 <mconsidi> Any questions or comments?
2010-01-11T11:11:51 <kstreith> the effort will be ongoing throughout 2010, just so everyone is aware
2010-01-11T11:12:13 <tclarke> sounds good, mconsidi will keep us apprised of progress at future IRC meetings
2010-01-11T11:13:34 <tclarke> if there's nothing else on that topic, lets move on
2010-01-11T11:13:37 <tclarke> 4.3.3 release schedule
2010-01-11T11:13:53 <tclarke> I haven't got the key dates handy, would someone like to mention lock downs and release dates?
2010-01-11T11:14:24 <dsulgrov> All new code must be checked in by Friday, January 29
2010-01-11T11:15:44 <dsulgrov> All code will be integrated into the trunk by Friday, February 5
2010-01-11T11:16:09 <dsulgrov> The release is currently scheduled for Wednesday, March 3
2010-01-11T11:16:22 <tclarke> thanks dsulgrov. any questions on the 4.3.3 release?
2010-01-11T11:17:50 <tclarke> ok, that's the last item before open questions and discussion
2010-01-11T11:17:53 <tclarke> are there any other topics for today?
2010-01-11T11:18:04 <kstreith> yes
2010-01-11T11:18:08 <kstreith> impending release of spectral processing extension
2010-01-11T11:18:29 <kstreith> hopefully the 4.3.3 release will also include a new extension that provides the ability to do hyper and multi-spectral analysis
2010-01-11T11:18:37 <kstreith> this will be an LGPL v2.1 release
2010-01-11T11:20:11 <kstreith> it will include things like Spectral Angle Mapper, Constrained Energy Minimization, Emperical Line Method and Signature Plotting
2010-01-11T11:20:22 <kstreith> so, both Python Scripting and spectral processing should be appearing as new extensions along with 4.3.3
2010-01-11T11:20:24 <kstreith> that's all for me
2010-01-11T11:20:30 <tclarke> great
2010-01-11T11:20:33 <tclarke> looking forward to the new functionality
2010-01-11T11:20:48 <tclarke> for those of you who have access to the government extensions (COMET), the new spectral extension will contain a subset of the COMET functionality
2010-01-11T11:22:06 <tclarke> if there are no other comments or questions, we'll consider this meeting over
2010-01-11T11:22:27 <tclarke> ok, notes and new agenda will be on the mailing list later today, remember to add to the agenda if you have something you'd like to discuss and keep an eye on the agenda so you'll know what will be discussed at the next meeting
2010-01-11T11:22:30 <tclarke> meeting is over
