Summary

4.3.0 has been released including a new IDL scripting plug-in. There will be a brown bag demo of the new IDL functionality at the Ball Dayton office towards the end of july. There's work on extending the IDL work and 2008's scripting work over the next few months and feedback will be extremely helpful. Keep an eye on the mailing list for info. rgoffena has made a patch available to Ball personnel, tclarke will look at the patch and get a JIRA issue started.

2009-06-15T11:00:19 <tclarke2> notice the calendar jump since the meeting two weeks ago was canceled
2009-06-15T11:01:37 <tclarke2> if there are problems, let me know
2009-06-15T11:01:42 <tclarke2> ok, 4.3.0 final is out the door and on the web
2009-06-15T11:01:47 <tclarke2> including the new IDL plugin from extras.ballforge.net
2009-06-15T11:01:57 <tclarke2> there were no major problems, just a couple of small issues came out of testing
2009-06-15T11:02:04 <tclarke2> we've got a linux autobuild machine which I'm in the process of setting up
2009-06-15T11:02:13 <tclarke2> that means we'll be able to ensure some basic linux compatibility is maintained
2009-06-15T11:02:27 <tclarke2> there will be no official releases but we plan on putting up unofficial (not tested) builds for linux users
2009-06-15T11:03:50 <tclarke2> anything else anyone would like to say about 4.3.0?
2009-06-15T11:04:24 <tclarke2> ok, let's move on
2009-06-15T11:04:30 <tclarke2> as mentioned above, there's a new IDL scripting plug-in availabler
2009-06-15T11:04:37 <tclarke2> ksteith is planning a brown bag session to demo the IDL capabilities
2009-06-15T11:04:44 <tclarke2> the date is yet to be determined but will likely been at the end of July sometime
2009-06-15T11:06:07 <tclarke2> spread the word, announcements will go out to the mailing list when a date is chosen
2009-06-15T11:06:13 <tclarke2> next topic, mid-year IR&D
2009-06-15T11:06:24 <tclarke2> I've submitted a proposal to expand on the work done last year on scripting and the work done on the IDL plug-in
2009-06-15T11:06:32 <tclarke2> the idea is to generate a simplified Opticks API geared towards data access and algorithm plug-ins
2009-06-15T11:06:40 <tclarke2> the API will be easy to wrap in other languages like IDL and Python
2009-06-15T11:08:26 <tclarke2> even if the IR&D is not approved, this is work that will likely happen eventually, so get your ideas ready, a successful api will need lots of feedback and ideas from the community
2009-06-15T11:08:35 <tclarke2> on to open discussion
2009-06-15T11:08:44 <tclarke2> tjohnson is not here, so I'll mention that he's put up binaries (windows 64-bit) for an enhanced/improved band math plug-in
2009-06-15T11:08:59 <tclarke2> he hasn't shared code yet but intends too (he doesn't have git installed so it's a technical holdup)
2009-06-15T11:09:08 <tclarke2> it's available on the coan download site (http://coan.sourceforge.net)
2009-06-15T11:09:14 <tclarke2> thanks to Todd for his work on a much needed improvement
2009-06-15T11:10:26 <tclarke2> I'll open the floor now
2009-06-15T11:10:54 <tclarke2> ok, I'll make once more announcement
2009-06-15T11:10:56 <mconsidi> here
2009-06-15T11:10:58 <tclarke2> kip has been working on setting up an opticks blog
2009-06-15T11:11:06 <tclarke2> in addition to my occasional posts, we'll have two running
2009-06-15T11:11:09 <goffena> here
2009-06-15T11:11:23 <tclarke2> if you'd like to write about anything opticks related (even remotely), we'd be glad to provide you some blog space or to integrate your blog into the opticks feed
2009-06-15T11:12:41 <tclarke2> I generally write about exploratory projects I'm working on in COAN
2009-06-15T11:12:50 <tclarke2> I believe kip will write about open source issues and official features
2009-06-15T11:12:56 <tclarke2> we'd love to get more scientific/researcher oriented content, so spread the word
2009-06-15T11:13:12 <tclarke2> I'm also starting a blog high side (for those with access) which will focus on developer/analyst interaction and advocacy
2009-06-15T11:13:16 <tclarke2> talk to me offline for more information
2009-06-15T11:13:22 <tclarke2> goffena: since you arrived a little late, have you got anything to add or discuss?
2009-06-15T11:13:24 <tclarke2> before I close the meeting?
2009-06-15T11:13:29 <goffena> not really. Are the blogs seperate?
2009-06-15T11:14:47 <goffena> Or somehow displayed on the same page.
2009-06-15T11:14:48 <goffena> ?
2009-06-15T11:14:53 <goffena> I really don't want to have to visit 3 different pages.
2009-06-15T11:14:56 <tclarke2> kip and I are maintaining separate blogs but he'll be aggregating them on the new opticks front page (the wiki front page)
2009-06-15T11:14:58 <goffena> for 3 different blogs
2009-06-15T11:15:02 <tclarke2> you'll be able to see updates there or using an rss reader
2009-06-15T11:15:06 <goffena> ok. sounds good.
2009-06-15T11:15:07 <tclarke2> my other blog is on a separate network so it will not be included
2009-06-15T11:15:08 <dadkins> here
2009-06-15T11:15:11 <goffena> thought of something.
2009-06-15T11:15:22 <goffena> Did anyone see my blurp here about the Brightness Toolbar patch?
2009-06-15T11:15:40 <tclarke2> I did not but I haven't been on IRC much lately...when did you mention it and I'll look through the logs?
2009-06-15T11:16:56 <goffena> It is available Ball intranet \\rgoffena-pc\test ice files\rgbplayback.patch
2009-06-15T11:17:07 <goffena> oops. wrong one.
2009-06-15T11:17:16 <tclarke2> ok, someone will take a look at it, I'll do so next time I'm in the office if nobody else gets to it before then
2009-06-15T11:17:22 <goffena> \\rgoffena-pc\test ice files\brightness_toolbar.patch
2009-06-15T11:17:28 <tclarke2> ok, will look at it
2009-06-15T11:17:35 <goffena> i've nothing further.
