Summary
The Opticks 4.3.2 lockdown was last friday and the rollup is now in progress. An rc1 release is expected next week.
New Python scripting capability is in the Opticks extras trunk. Integration with Opticks is occurring in the OPTICKS-721 and EXTRAS-12 branches.
Some of the capability in the COMET spectral extension is being open sourced. Capability such as SAM, CEM, and spectral signature support will be included. We are waiting on final government release approval. We expect to have something available by the end of October.
Ball and Opticks have a booth at GEOINT again this year. Opticks core capability and the soon to be open sourced spectral capability are on display at booth 539 at the 2009 GEOINT symposium.
Michael Considine will be sponsoring an open source Opticks plug-in contest. Details are being discussed but the contest will be open to all except core developers and will begin before the end of 2009. A WII game system has been provided as a prize. Please watch the Opticks blogs and mailing lists for the announcement.

2009-10-19T12:04:06 <tclarke> 8. Summary and closing
2009-10-19T12:04:18 <tclarke> first, 4.3.2 lockdown was last friday
2009-10-19T12:04:30 <tclarke> things went fairly smooth...there was a small issue on Solaris this morning but it has been resolved and is awaiting autotest confirmation
2009-10-19T12:04:35 <gmartin_cn> here
2009-10-19T12:04:35 <dadkins> autotest is good to go
2009-10-19T12:04:40 <tclarke> we are on schedule for a 4.3.2rc1 release next week
2009-10-19T12:05:56 <tclarke> once Ball testing of rc1 is complete we will begin regression testing of that release on Windows Vista (32-bit and 64-bit)
2009-10-19T12:06:12 <tclarke> this will at least establish a baseline for Vista although we may not test Vista each release
2009-10-19T12:06:22 <tclarke> that's about it for 4.3.2 right now, keep an eye on announce@ballforge for further release announcements
2009-10-19T12:06:39 <tclarke> the extras project now has a new plug-in which will not be formally released with 4.3.2 but is available in the trunk
2009-10-19T12:06:43 <tclarke> it provides a scripting plug-in for Python (2.4, 2.5, and 2.6)
2009-10-19T12:08:16 <tclarke> functionality is limited since it does not currently wrap any of the Opticks API but that capability is ongoing in the OPTICKS-721 and EXTRAS-12 branches
2009-10-19T12:08:24 <tclarke> if you are interesting in writing Opticks algorithms in Python please keep and eye on these
2009-10-19T12:08:44 <tclarke> I'm formulating some questions regarding these branches that I'll be posting to the dev mailing list soon and I'll be looking for feedback
2009-10-19T12:08:50 <tclarke> any questions or further information on the Python plug-in?
2009-10-19T12:10:05 <tclarke> ok, next item
2009-10-19T12:10:10 <tclarke> open source spectral capability
2009-10-19T12:10:19 <tclarke> we are working to open source some of the capability which is currently in the closed source COMET spectral extension
2009-10-19T12:10:33 <tclarke> this will include some basic spectral algorithms such as SAM and CEM as well as spectral signature support
2009-10-19T12:10:42 <tclarke> we are awaiting final release approval from the government but do not expect any issues with this
2009-10-19T12:10:51 <tclarke> there's no exact timeline but I would expect we'll have something available by the end of the month
2009-10-19T12:10:57 <tclarke> any further comments or questions on open source spectral?
2009-10-19T12:12:24 <gmartin_cn> Are the remaining components of COMET going to eventually go to opticks on software.forge.mil?
2009-10-19T12:12:32 <kstreith> here
2009-10-19T12:12:35 <tclarke> we are not sure yet...they are primarily NASIC developed algorithms so that will be their call
2009-10-19T12:12:41 <gmartin_cn> ok
2009-10-19T12:12:45 <tclarke> we've hinted at the possibility and have not had obvious negative response but we've not directly asked them yet
2009-10-19T12:14:30 <gmartin_cn> Ok.. we need to work at getting sample code, or links back to opticks.org up there too - still working the upload issue for you guys there as well - slow going because of the project.forge.mil launch coming in a couple of weeks.
2009-10-19T12:14:32 <tclarke> ok, open discussion...I'll start by mentioning that Opticks will be demoed at the 2009 GEOINT conference this week
2009-10-19T12:14:47 <tclarke> hopefully this meeting will get indexed by the search engines and we'll get some hits from interested GEOINT 2009 attendees
2009-10-19T12:14:56 <tclarke> for those unfamiliar, more info is available on GEOINT here http://geoint2009.com/
2009-10-19T12:15:07 <tclarke> the open source spectral capability will be demoed there as well as core capability
2009-10-19T12:15:15 <tclarke> any other discussion?
2009-10-19T12:15:44 <kstreith> we are looking into running an extension development contenst
2009-10-19T12:15:48 <kstreith> contest
2009-10-19T12:16:01 <kstreith> Michael Considine has agreed to put up a prize of a Nintendo Wii
2009-10-19T12:16:18 <kstreith> and with the new website switchover, we decided it would be a good time to dovetail in the contest
2009-10-19T12:18:38 <kstreith> details are still be worked about submission guidelines, judging criteria, contest duration and the like
2009-10-19T12:18:52 <kstreith> my personal thought is to start the contest before the end of the year
2009-10-19T12:19:01 <kstreith> so, keep an eye out for details
2009-10-19T12:19:10 <kstreith> we are also looking for suggestions about where to mention/advertise the contest
2009-10-19T12:19:12 <tclarke> it will be open to any non-core developer and will likely include python and idl plug-ins as well as C++ but as kstreith said, the details are still being discussed
2009-10-19T12:19:15 <kstreith> so, please send any suggestions along about that
2009-10-19T12:19:27 <tclarke> kstreith also alluded to the website
2009-10-19T12:19:31 <tclarke> opticks.org and opticks.net now point to the new Confluence based site
2009-10-19T12:19:36 <tclarke> please send feedback to the mailing lists
2009-10-19T12:19:46 <kstreith> i would point all the "cool and exciting" differences between the new site and the old site
2009-10-19T12:19:54 <kstreith> but I hope if you go visit, it will be obviously better
2009-10-19T12:20:01 <kstreith> that was my intent, to be heads and shoulders above the existing website
2009-10-19T12:20:20 <tclarke> any further business?
2009-10-19T12:22:55 <tclarke> ok then...we'll finish up
2009-10-19T12:23:00 <tclarke> look to the dev mailing list for notes and other information
2009-10-19T12:23:06 <tclarke> please add items to next meeting's agenda if you have anything of interest to discuss
2009-10-19T12:23:09 <tclarke> meeting adjourned
