Description
This arc contains file format specifications. There are two ways to define a file format: explicit and implicit.
An implicit file format is an explicit serialization context applied to an explicit data type. An implicit format does not generally have an entry in this arc and is defined by two OIDs, the data type OID and the serialization context OID. Optionally, a file format OID in this subarc can reference these two OIDs and act as a shorthand specification of the data type and serialization context pair.
Explicit file formats are defined in this OID arc and don't refer to an explicit serialization context and data type pair. One situation where an explicit file format may be necessary is if the format combines multiple data types into a new data type which is only valid for one file format. In this case, it may be tedious to create a new data type for use with only a single serialization and context. An explicit file format description may contain any description format. (for example: and XSD, ASN.1, or English text)
